Blocks Area

We read several books over the course of exploring the blocks center.

One we might read

We always of course read Pip Builds.

I have a binder with a cute cover from HERE.

Week 2 or sooner, in the blocks area, I intro build challenges.
One because then I take their photo and later display it on our smartboard.
Two because I print out the photos and pop them into a binder.

My plan is to print out at least 4 different pictures to each page.
I do want to send home their pages at the end,
so I will make a page for each child and personalize it.

So in the beginning, I used THESE posters to spark their interest.
I intro those quickly at our morning meeting.

Last week of September

In our last week of September we:

*Made a writing chart )I tried making it a marker/crayon box.

I still have to draw/make visuals next to words.

In our block area,
I have two building ideas.
When they build a tower they get their name on the

Frog Challenge Board (it's just a piece of cardstock)
laminated and on the line it says what the challenge is.
On the shelf above are additional cards
for the beginning of the year.

They move to our centers the following week.
I do that the first month of school.

Here are our morning bins for the week:

Weeks 1 and 2

We started school on a Wednesday and day two was Thursday. We don't have school on Fridays!!

Here are our morning bins.

We rotate daily.

Our first bins were these exact toys- minus the cards.

We play first- I mean we explore the tools first.

In the next rotation, I added the cards- it's not like a week, but sort of it is :)

We go to school 4 days a week and we only have three rotations, last year, I had 5 lol

The year before, I had 4, it was perfect!

When we are done with these morning bins, they go into our centers.

I have a 9 cube shelf, that we store our centers on.

They know how to use these toys correctly, they can play.

I use a Pip the Pup book to introduce pretty much everything in my classroom.

It's how I plan my small group lessons to start with too!

One of my students told me "We don't get to use it unless you teach us how to use it first!"

Such a smartie!!

We introduced pretend and library the first day. I had help :)

On day 2 we explored blocks.

We could play in pretend or read in the library while half were in blocks with me.

We are having so much fun!!!!

Not too many photos to share, those have my students faces to share with families :)

Classroom Tour: Centers

Center Time!

I share my classroom, so I store my centers in that 9 cube shelf.
I may have 3 extra centers on top.

In the photo at the end of the post, you can see
one unit that was totally out of control lol
So many centers to choose from!
I like to have options, so I give my students options too!

I usually have math, writing, letters, fine motor, science, ELA,
sensory, art, dramatic play, blocks, light table,
pocket chart, and interactive board.

No, I do not have all of those going at the beginning of the year.

We introduce our centers basically one at a time.
We read a Pip the Pup book about that area.
Then we practice that center.
Click HERE to read all about Pip and our first week of school.

For our ROOM CENTERS

These centers don't move :)

We have our:

blocks
writing
dramatic play
science
library loft
light table is under our loft (it's darker)

I try to have something to add to the room centers for each theme.
So in the beginning, I use THESE posters to spark their interest.

Before I put our binder in the center with design pages inside,
I think when they have built one of these structures,
I will put their name on a Post-it Note.

The cube shelf centers stay on one side of the room.

When they are done with the center bin, they return it to the shelf.

Sometimes I add wooden toys to our block area.

If you want to see what was in this photo, hop over HERE.

Hop along with us as we discover all the centers in our room.
