Color Songs-
The silver comet shooting to space
Silver is the stars shining above me.
Silver, also is my last name
Spelled differently.
Silver pots and pans stand
Out and glow.
Silver is the rainbow
Glimmering over me.
It is like a vision
Of me
Just standing there
Silver shines everywhere I go.

G is for Gingerbread

Book choices: Some of these are new to me, some are loved!!

Here are some Gingerbread videos  if you don't have any GB books :)
Today I will read-

Fingerplay- use felt/foam/fabric GB men

Color Song-

For the actual Sugar Plum Dance:

Math/Life Skills/Science
GB Prop Box: GB felt GB men or foam GB men or fabric GB people.  I have cookie trays that look like gingerbread people.  My kindergartners loved playing with them!

Book- We love The Cajun Gingerbread Boy
(y'all go look at the price! oh my!!!  I didn't pay that much!)

Run Run Rap

Run, run, as fast as you can!
You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man.
You can run in the morning, you can run in the night,
But you can't catch me, uh huh, that' right.
You can't catch me, uh huh, that' right!

The rest of the students chant:
Gingerbread Man, where you goin?
Gingerbread Man, where you goin?
~ Emily Crocker

Art-  you can print out play dough mats, but we just use our tools :)

Gingerbread Play Dough Recipe

  • 1/4 cup Molasses
  • 3/4 cup Cornstarch (cornflour)
  • 4 tsp Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp Water
  • 2 tbl Vegetable oil
  • 1/4 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Allspice
  • 2 Tbl + 2 tsp Flour
Mix the cornstarch, baking soda, cinnamon, and allspice.  Then add the water, oil, and molasses. Add  2 tablespoons of flour. Then keep adding flour 1/2 teaspoon at a time, mixing well after each addition, until your dough is no longer sticky.
This one scares me, but I might give it a try. We will see.

Gingerbread Play Dough Recipe
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
  • allspice
  • cinnamon
  • ginger
  • nutmeg
Mix all dry ingredients, add spices until you have reached your desired scent and color. Mix oil and water together and then add to dry ingredients and stir. Cook the mixture for three to five minutes on low to medium heat, stirring constantly. You will know it is finished when the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the pan and forms a large ball. Take the dough out of pan and knead until it is smooth and soft. When cool, store in an airtight container.

GB Wall- I found this at Target in the Dollar Spot for $3.

Gingerbread Man Song
(tune: The Muffin Man)

Oh, do you know the Gingerbread Man,
The Gingerbread Man, the Gingerbread Man?
Oh, do you know the Gingerbread Man,
Who ran and ran and ran?

He said, "Catch me if you can,
If you can, if you can."
He said, "Catch me if you can,"
Then ran and ran and ran.

I can run like the Gingerbread Man.
The Gingerbread Man, the Gingerbread Man.
I can run like the Gingerbread Man,
Now catch me if you can.

Music- More Nutcracker :)

Math/Life Skills/Science
Take one GB person from the prop box.  I found the red tweezers at Dollar Tree. Have child use tongs/tweezers to move from container to GB. This works their fine motor control. I'm not sure where I got the blue ones though.

I'm The Gingerbread Man
I'm the Gingerbread Man and I'm here to say,
You can't catch me, no not today.
I've run away from a big brown horse,
And I can run from you of course, of course.
I took a ride on the sly fox's back.
He ate me up for a tasty snack.
Yum! Yum!
