Color Songs-
The silver comet shooting to space
Silver is the stars shining above me.
Silver, also is my last name
Spelled differently.
Silver pots and pans stand
Out and glow.
Silver is the rainbow
Glimmering over me.
It is like a vision
Of me
Just standing there
Alone.
Silver shines everywhere I go.

Fingerplay
Run Run Rap

Run, run, as fast as you can!
You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man.
You can run in the morning, you can run in the night,
But you can't catch me, uh huh, that' right.
You can't catch me, uh huh, that' right!

The rest of the students chant:
Gingerbread Man, where you goin?
Gingerbread Man, where you goin?
~ Emily Crocker

Art-  you can print out play dough mats, but we just use our tools :)

Gingerbread Play Dough Recipe

  • 1/4 cup Molasses
  • 3/4 cup Cornstarch (cornflour)
  • 4 tsp Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp Water
  • 2 tbl Vegetable oil
  • 1/4 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Allspice
  • 2 Tbl + 2 tsp Flour
Mix the cornstarch, baking soda, cinnamon, and allspice.  Then add the water, oil, and molasses. Add  2 tablespoons of flour. Then keep adding flour 1/2 teaspoon at a time, mixing well after each addition, until your dough is no longer sticky.
This one scares me, but I might give it a try. We will see.

~~OR~~
Gingerbread Play Dough Recipe
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
Spices
  • allspice
  • cinnamon
  • ginger
  • nutmeg
Mix all dry ingredients, add spices until you have reached your desired scent and color. Mix oil and water together and then add to dry ingredients and stir. Cook the mixture for three to five minutes on low to medium heat, stirring constantly. You will know it is finished when the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the pan and forms a large ball. Take the dough out of pan and knead until it is smooth and soft. When cool, store in an airtight container.

Gingerbread Man Song
(tune: The Muffin Man)

Oh, do you know the Gingerbread Man,
The Gingerbread Man, the Gingerbread Man?
Oh, do you know the Gingerbread Man,
Who ran and ran and ran?

He said, "Catch me if you can,
If you can, if you can."
He said, "Catch me if you can,"
Then ran and ran and ran.

I can run like the Gingerbread Man.
The Gingerbread Man, the Gingerbread Man.
I can run like the Gingerbread Man,
Now catch me if you can.

I'm The Gingerbread Man
I'm the Gingerbread Man and I'm here to say,
You can't catch me, no not today.

I took a ride on the sly fox's back.
He ate me up for a tasty snack.
Yum! Yum!
