V is for Very Hungry Caterpillar

 Monday~
This book and Caterpillar came from the The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art !!!!!!

Lifecycle Song:
(tune: Up On the Housetop)
First comes a butterfly who lays an egg,
Out comes a caterpillar with many legs.
Oh see the caterpillar spin and spin,
A little chrysalis to sleep in.
Oh, oh, oh look and see.
Oh, oh, oh look and see.
Out of the chrysalis
My oh my.
Out comes a pretty butterfly!

Growing Song

So this is sort of an action song.  You start curled up on the floor. As you sing the song, you begin moving "growing" and by the end of the song, you are reaching to the ceiling.  I hope I can find a YouTube clip lol

I'm growing
I'm growing
I'm growing every Monday and Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday.

When you are standing tall. You point to different body parts and sing,

"I'm growing here" point to body part.
"I'm growing there" point to another body part.
"I'm growing up all over!" Point from feet all the way up your body.

 Sensory Bin- I have Eric Carle buckets from the Dollar Spot at Target.

Song:

Look, I'm a Butterfly
(tune: Pop Goes the Weasel)
I spin and spin my chrysalis,
(circle fingers on the palm)
Then go to rest inside.
(circle fingers and rest hand on palm)
When I come out, I've changed indeed ...
(open fingers slowly)
Look! I'm a butterfly!
(fly fingers away)

Flannel Board Story
A million years ago when I was an undergrad, I had to make a flannel board story.  Still gets use!!

Hungry Caterpillar Song Thursday
(tune: “Addams Family”)
My tummy is fat. (snap snap)
I like it like that. (snap snap)
I wiggle around,
I jiggle around,
My tummy is fat. (snap snap)
I'm a hairy caterpillar
I'm such a chubby feller
I love to eat and eat,
Those leaves are such a treat!
My tummy is fat. (snap snap)
I like it like that. (snap snap)
I wiggle around,
I jiggle around,
My tummy is fat. (snap snap)

Here are two choices for art today:
http://danaelaineellis.blogspot.com/2011/08/very-hungry-caterpillar.html

Yes I planned this one last year... but didn't do it.  I still think it will be a fabulous addition to our book themed room.  One half is Dr Seuss and this is the other half :)

Today, froglet gets to recreate the story himself using the can.

Friday~

We're going on a scavenger hunt.  I used these pieces and "hid" them around the living room. Click on the photo below to get your own free set!!!

 I printed these cards.  Then I cut the outside rows off and kept the two columns together.

The Fuzzy Caterpillar  Friday
(tune: The Itsy Bitsy Spider)
The fuzzy caterpillar
Curled upon a leaf.
Spun her little chrysalis
And then fell asleep.
While she was sleeping,
She dreamed that she could fly.
And later when she woke up,
She was a butterfly!

We will "color" these letters.  It is totally up to you, what you want to use to color these. Some ideas might be
* paint
* watercolors
* markers
* colored pencils

I printed these sheets from

I have no idea what I will use these for, but they are super cute and educational!!!

I will have this available to color as well.
